Does the Jack Lalanne PowerJuicer Deliver as Advertised?
You would have, no doubt, seen the Jack Lalanne PowerJuicer advertised on TV. This article will address some of the PowerJuicer’s advertising claims. We also evaluate the Power Juicer’s features and benefits, as well as talk about common criticisms and complaints.
Jack’s PowerJuicer is available on a two-payment plan here:
The first thing you may notice is the quiet operation. Many juicers sound like a high-pitched motorcycle. The PowerJuicer is much quieter than a washing machine. Its not quite “whisper quiet” as claimed on TV, but it shouldn’t wake your children or disturb the neighbors.
The quality of juice is what impresses most consumers. You get fresh juice with a frothy/smooth texture that tastes 10 times better than the stuff you buy at the store. Your juice is full of natural vitamins and minerals and free of preservatives and other harmful additives. In a nutshell, that means health and vitality for you and your family.
With the cheaper juicers, it is often necessary to squeeze excess juice from the pulp. That’s not handy or efficient. The LaLanne PowerJuicer spits out dry shards. Nothing, to speak of, left behind.
Another advantage is the unit’s stability. The PowerJuicer doesn’t move around on the counter while you’re inserting produce and juicing. Don’t expect this from other juicers …unless you’re working with the $1,000 commercial models.
The stainless steel blade should be good for about a year before needing replacement. PowerJuicer users routinely report that their blade is still sharp after 200+ juicing sessions.
Jack Lalanne, himself, is known partly for his dare-devil feats of strength, but safety around the home is one of his pet peeves. The Lalanne PowerJuicer comes with a blade puller accessory that makes it easy to remove the blade for cleaning without cutting your fingers. The unit also has a hold-down safety bar that prevents the blade from rotating unless the unit is fully assembled.
Common Complaints and Fixes
PowerJuicer is clogged. This may happen for a number of reasons that are easily correctable and even avoidable:
1. Too much pulp in the filter. Turn the machine off and clean the filter. Presto, you’re back in action.
2. Your using exceptionally gummy fruits such as bananas or avocado. These fruits cannot be juiced in the PowerJuicer. Add them separately to a blender for smoothies.
3. The spout is blocked by a piece of pulp that has caused the juice to collect in the receptacle and overflow. Turn the machine off, wait for the blade to stop spinning and inspect the spout. Clear the blockage so the juice can flow freely.
Cleanup is difficult. NASA is working on a self-cleaning version. Just kidding.
Use the blade pulling accessory to remove the blade. The other parts will simply lift off.
You now have two options:
1. Give all components a quick rinse and light wash, or
2. Give all parts a quick rinse and put them in the dishwasher.
Make sure you have the time to take the PowerJuicer apart and rinse it right away after juicing. If you let the pulp and juice dry on the machine, it’s a bear to get off.
With a little practice, you should be able to clean up the entire machine and have it in the dish drainer in less than 5 minutes.
Helpful Suggestions
Oranges, lemons, and limes must be peeled to avoid bitter-tasting juice.
Remove large pits from fruits such as cherries, peaches and mangoes to avoid dulling the PowerJuicer’s blade.
The PowerJuicer works best when you alternate soft fruits/veggies with harder ones. Let’s use apple grape juice as an example. Put a handful of grapes in first and then 1-2 apples. Continuing alternating grapes and apples until you have a sufficient amount of juice.
The machine will process fruits whole as long as they will fit into the chute. When you’re out shopping, try to stick with small or medium-sized fruit; otherwise, you may need to do some chopping.
If you’re juicing for more than 2 people, keep you eye on the amount of pulp in the filter. If the blade starts blogging down, simply unplug machine and dump out excess pulp; then resume juicing.
